Amplifying Black Voices
In our 2020 Media and Wellbeing Survey of Black people in Southampton, more than three quarters said that local media’s coverage of Black people is disproportionately negative. This made them feel “sad”, “depressed”, “unheard”, “misunderstood and stereotyped” and “concerned for the younger generation”. So, we created our Black Community Coverage Clinic, to amplify the city’s Black voices and empower them to tell those hidden and overlooked positive stories.
Now open nationwide, Our Black Community Coverage Clinic is a free ‘drop-in’ consultancy that provides media support to Black community groups, non-profits and social enterprises in England.
In these one-to-one sessions with our media professionals, we help individuals to find creative ways to amplify and promote their organisation, projects and stories.
Sessions take place in-person (in Southampton) or online.
