Our online Media Reporting Tool is a place where you can tell us your concerns about local media coverage if you feel it is negatively biased or discriminates against a particular person or group in Southampton, based on their ethnicity, culture or faith. We have created this free service as the majority of respondents in our media survey said they didn’t know how or where to complain about press and media coverage.
Our Version Media CIC is not an official reporting body. This Tool is to make it easier for individuals to raise their concerns. We can either contact the news company on your behalf, or send you their contact details for complaints (this is usually an email address). Please note: Your contact details will be passed on to the news company as they may need to get in touch with you directly about your concern. If you would rather we don’t forward your details, please state that in the form below.
This Media Reporting Tool is for us all to work together to improve the media’s output and highlight where they might have got something wrong and to give them an opportunity to make it right.
There are details of how to make official complaints, to the official monitoring bodies, at the bottom of this page.
If you’d like more information about complaining about a TV, radio or online service, please go to Ofcom’s Make A Complaint. For more information about complaining about newspapers or magazines, please visit IPSO, the Independent Press Standards Organisation.
