OVM: “Reclaiming Narratives” Black Stories Screening #BlackHistoryMonth

1–2 minutes

Thursday 31st October 2024 | An Our Version Media event and MAST Mayflower Studios event

In line with this year’s national Black History Month, the theme of our Black stories screening is “Reclaiming Narratives”.

Join us for an evening showcasing and celebrating stories from Southampton’s African, Caribbean, and Black British communities. Each story is told by the individuals themselves through mobile video, created after learning how to film and edit using a smartphone during our Mobile Storytelling course.

Watch their short stories on the big screen. Themed “Reclaiming Narratives”, each will challenge negative Black narrative head-on.

Be part of an evening of real stories, by real people. With our campaign to tackle negative media stereotypes gaining increasing traction across the UK, this event will highlight the importance of community-led, authentic content creation and storytelling.

Keynote speaker: Cherron Inko-Tariah MBE, Editor, Black History Month UK magazine.
