Wednesday 25th September | An event by Black History Month South
The A Study in Colourism Exhibition will feature portrait images of well-known Southampton people of different complexions and information about how they see themselves as “Black”.
Colourism/Shadism is the value we attach to people of different complexions and is a prejudice in which Black or Brown people with darker skins experience disadvantages compared with those with a lighter complexion and is a practice that operates differently in Black communities, Brown communities, Mixed Race communities and White communities. The aim of the exhibition is to stimulate discussion on an issue that many in all communities are uncomfortable with.

Venue: Southampton Central Library Civic Centre, Commercial Road, SO14 7LW
Following the preview, the exhibition will be at locations across the city, including Solent University, MAST Mayflower Studios, Southampton General Hospital and Southampton Central Library from 1st to 31st October.
