Our founder, Veronica Gordon, has been honoured with an Outstanding Alumni Award from her former university.
The University of Southampton’s Outstanding Alumni Awards highlight the achievements of the university’s talented alumni globally, showcasing their ongoing contributions to the university’s reputation as ambassadors and exemplars for current students.
There was even more cause to celebrate because Veronica was the first-ever winner of the Civic Award, a brand new category recognising alumni who make significant contributions to the local region of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
Veronica graduated from the University of Southampton in 2005, after completing the BSc(Soc) Social Policy and Administration. She has dedicated her career to empowering and amplifying the voices of those most demonised, misrepresented, or ignored by the press. This award acknowledges Our Version Media’s impact in uplifting those communities by teaching digital media and journalism skills, amplifying positive and authentic stories, and challenging negative stereotypes.
In her acceptance speech, Veronica shared her own story of the labels and stereotypes put on her when she was a young single mum.
