We equip people – particularly those from black and other communities demonised by the press – with digital media and journalism skills to tell their own stories. Our Mobile Storytelling workshops teach people how to create, film and edit impactful videos using a smartphone. We’re creating an army of mobile storytellers in neighbourhoods across the south.
“I had never even tried videomaking until I began the training. I was taught what type of videos are most likely to make an impact and was practically shown how to create them. Technology and I usually go in different directions, but Veronica built my confidence and my belief so that I could do it, supporting me step by step.” – Dr Abdoulie Sanneh, Founder, IKAN (Active Kids, Active Neighbourhoods)
Thanks to our training, more and more individuals and communities are using digital media and made-by-mobile videos to shine a spotlight on their lives, communities, projects and neighbourhoods.
Our Mobile Storytelling workshops are also helping to amplify the voices of grassroots community organisations in our hometown of Southampton, highlighting the great work they’re doing across the city. We’re proud to have trained groups such as: The United Voice of African Associations (TUVAA), Nigerian Community In Hampshire, Romanian Advisory Centre, Transition Southampton, Northam Social Group’s Sewing Club, Women’s Integration Group (WIG), Southampton Black Heritage Association, Priory Road Community Group, West Itchen Community Trust, Northam Local Conversation, St Mary’s and Kingsland Local Conversation, CLEAR refugee project, The Agency Youth Project, Golden Leaves, Southampton National Park City, Southampton Mental Health Network and many more!
We’ve started a YouTube channel as a home for their made-by-mobile videos. Real stories by real people, watch some below:
