Here in Southampton, we’ve created a Media Reporting Tool to help the city’s residents to report press coverage that is negatively biased or discriminates against people based on their ethnicity or faith. This was developed following our media survey of black Southampton residents in 2020. The survey revealed that although three quarters of respondents felt the local press negatively portrayed black people, more than half said they didn’t know how to complain.
